“Ban the Box” Passes
chainlink
May 10, 2016

Effective January 1, 2017, Connecticut employers are prohibited from inquiring into an applicant’s prior arrests, convictions or prior arrest on their employment applications.

There are two exceptions.
*if the employer is required to do so by state or federal law
*if a fidelity bond (or equivalent) is required for the position

TIP: Review your employment applications now and remove any questions that may run afoul of this new legislation.

Please note that employers may still inquire about criminal history, but these inquiries need to be made after the application has been completed (such as during the interview).
