How to Manage Unemployment During the Coronavirus
March 23, 2020

As organizations contemplate difficult decisions with their workforce regarding the coronavirus pandemic, it’s important to remember that with any separation of employment such as a layoff, and other employment terminations, employers must give separating employees the proper documents for them to file for unemployment. This is known as the separation packet (UC-62). This packet has important information for the employee in order to file for unemployment, including the process to file. Within this packet is the UC-61 document which employers need to complete before giving to the employee. The U-61 was referred to for years as the “pink slip”.

Employers should use the “fillable” UC-61 for ease of completion.
