As you may know, effective October 1, a new Connecticut law goes into effect where employers must make available wage range information for their positions. Under this new law Connecticut employers must:
Provide an applicant the wage range for a position they are applying for at the earliest of – (1) an applicant’s request, or (2) prior to or at the time an applicant is made an offer of employment, with the offer including the compensation of the position.
Provide an employee the wage range for the employee’s position – (1) upon the hiring of the employee, (2) when there is a change in the employee’s position (e.g. promotion), or (3) the employee’s request for the wage range.
What is the “wage range”?
This is defined as:
A range of wages an employer anticipates relying on when setting wages for a position. This includes:
- reference to an applicable pay scale,
- previously determined range of wages for the position,
- the actual range of wages for those employees currently holding comparable positions,
- or the employer’s budgeted amount for the position.
